Indonesia proclaimed itself as a free and independent country on 17 August 1945, shortly after Japan surrendered to Allied Forces during World War II. With Pancasila as a basic fundamental principles and 1945 Constitution, the major goals of National purposes are to protect the Indonesian people and the entire motherland; to advance the public warfare; to develop the intellectual life of the nation; and to contribute to the establishment of the world order based on freedom, peace, and social...

This document presents in-house research on a Holographic Projector. This device operates by optically guiding the light from each pixel on an internal two-dimensional display to a unique focus in a three-dimensional volume. Properly addressing the 2-D pixel array via conventional computer graphics equipment will, therefore, generate transparent 3-D images which appear to float in space in front of the observer. A detailed mathematical model was created and used to design the Holographic...

A study tested the usefulness of the Theoretical Orientation to Reading Profile (TORP) in terms of its accuracy in measuring preservice teachers' change in theoretical orientation to reading as a result of having taken a reading methods course. Subjects, 27 upper division elementary education majors (the experimental group) and 15 upper division students enrolled in an elementary level curriculum course (the control group) took the TORP as pre- and posttests. The reading methods course taken by...

Linking teaching portfolios to the scholarship of teaching can help the teaching profession in general (and communication departments in particular) and can help expand the ways to document what teachers do to help students learn. E. Boyer's report "Scholarship Reconsidered: Priorities of the Professoriate" provides a structure and vocabulary for promoting these activities within the scholarship rubric. The report argues for four separate, yet overlapping functions of...

We obtain new fermionic sum representations for the Virasoro characters of the confromal field theory describing the ferromagnetic three-state Potts spin chain. These arise from the fermionic quasi-particle excitations derived from the Bethe equations for the eigenvalues of the hamiltonian. In the conformal scaling limit, the Bethe equations provide a description of the spectrum in terms of one genuine quasi-particle, and two ``ghost'' excitations with a limited microscopic momentum range. This...

It is frequently useful to construct dual descriptions of theories containing antisymmetric tensor fields by introducing a new potential whose curl gives the dual field strength, thereby interchanging field equations with Bianchi identities. We describe a general procedure for constructing actions containing both potentials at the same time, such that the dual relationship of the field strengths arises as an equation of motion. The price for doing this is the sacrifice of manifest Lorentz...

We introduce $*$-structures on braided groups and braided matrices. Using this, we show that the quantum double $D(U_q(su_2))$ can be viewed as the quantum algebra of observables of a quantum particle moving on a hyperboloid in q-Minkowski space (a three-sphere in the Lorentz metric), and with the role of angular momentum played by $U_q(su_2)$. This provides a new example of a quantum system whose algebra of observables is a Hopf algebra. Furthermore, its dual Hopf algebra can also be viewed as...

During this contract period, our work has focused on improvements to elliptic grid generation methods. There are two principle objectives in this project. One objective is to make the elliptic methods more reliable and efficient, and the other is to construct a modular code that can be incorporated into the National Grid Project (NGP), or any other grid generation code. Progress has been made in meeting both of these objectives. The two objectives are actually complementary. As the code...

During this period we concentrated our effort in two areas: (1) growth of epitaxial single-crystal beryllium films; and (2) multilayers and interfaces of material pairs incorporating 'new' materials for multilayer x-ray optics. To date we have succeeded in growing epitaxial single-crystal films of beryllium on alpha-AI2O3 (sapphire), silicon, and germanium using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). This is a major development since beryllium is an excellent spacer for the difficult but desirable water...

We calculate the splitting between fermion and anti-fermion effective masses in high temperature gauge theories in the presence of a non-vanishing chemical potential due to the $CP$-asymmetric fermionic background. In particular we consider the case of left-handed leptons in the $SU(2)\otimes U(1)$ theory when the temperature is above $250$ GeV and the gauge symmetry is restored.

The Army is planning to upgrade the existing Main Battle Tank. Concern was expressed whether the current lifting configuration was strong enough to support the additional load of this upgrade. A non-linear finite element analysis of four different configurations was done to determine whether the front lifting eye was strong enough. The analysis indicates that with a spreader bar incorporated in the lifting harness, the eye is strong enough. Without such a spreader bar, a detailed comparison...

We present real--space renormalization group (RG) calculations of the critical properties of the random--field Ising model on a cubic lattice in three dimensions. We calculate the RG flows in a two--parameter truncation of the Hamiltonian space. As predicted, the transition at finite randomness is controlled by a zero temperature, disordered critical fixed point, and we exhibit the universal crossover trajectory from the pure Ising critical point. We extract scaling fields and critical...

We perform a numerical calculation of the total cross section $\sigma(e^+e^- \rightarrow W^+W^-)$ as a function of energy, taking into account the finite width of the $W$ and the most important radiative corrections. We present these results, in tabular form, for several values of $M_W$. Using these results, we investigate running strategies for integrated luminosities that might be available at LEP~200 and estimate the accuracy to which it will be possible to determine the mass of the $W$ by...
